Hi Andy,
Anzac Day nears again and, as always, we see the army veterans wearing their Infantry Combat Badges. I have no problem with this, however, the Army have recently announced the introuduction of the "ARMY COMBAT BADGE" for all other Army persons who served in war zones and who spent the equilevent of 90 days outside the wire. This includes calvery units, engineers and artillary units. I have no doubt that these people deserve this recognision, which was instigated by the Australian Army, however, I do have a problem with the RAN, who will not recognise their people who served in comabt rolls. Terry Brooks, Basil Todd, Jeff Macintyre and myself (John Peart) were the original gunners & crewchiefs in Vietnam with the AHFV (135th AHC), however, the Government refuse to award us a uniform embelishment to attest to our combat duty. In the past I have written to the Department of Defence requesting consideration for such a badge, however, their only response was that it was not on their agenda. I think that it is now up to the RAN to do something about it and I am asking you for help to direct me in the right direction to commence some action on this. Andy, I would really like your input on this and I await your reply.
Yours,
John Peart
